Valerie Barnes - Grades 1 & 2 (on maternity leave)
I consider it an honour and blessing to be joining the highly qualified teaching team at Signet Christian School. In 2004 I graduated from Redeemer University College with a Bachelor of Christian Education. I spent 3 years teaching in different schools. I decided to go back to school part-time while continuing to work full-time with children. In 2008 I graduated with a Bachelor of Education and I also received my OCT certification. In the past year I worked part time as a grade 1/2 teacher at another school in Toronto and part time as a Support Worker for a child attending Signet Christian School. I instantly felt at home at SCS with the staff and of course the hospitable students who are so full of life! I admired the work that I witnessed the Lord doing here as I observed children developing into mature citizens of God’s kingdom. I began praying that God would provide a teaching opportunity at SCS if it was His will. I was extremely pleased when these doors opened for me! It is my passion to work with God’s children and I feel that it is a privilege to be able to do it in a place where His presence is evident. Thank you Lord!

Diane Fortier - Special Ed
I consider it a great honour to be joining the staff at Signet Christian School as a Special Education/ Resource teacher. In 2002 I graduated from Tyndale University College with a Bachelor of Religious Education degree, and from Humber College with a Developmental Service Worker Diploma. (I was a Front Desk Supervisor at Tyndale as well as the Assistant Manager of their bookstore. I also ran Day Camps in various Anglican churches in Ontario.) In 2003 I started working for Toronto Preschool Autism Services as an Instructional Therapist. In 2005, I came to Signet in that capacity, shadowing a student. I was welcomed with a warm embrace by the staff and students. In 2007, I started supply teaching here at the elementary level. I love people just as God made them, and it’s my passion to see them all achieve their highest potential. I especially feel inspired by Henri Nouwen to take an eternal viewpoint concerning the labels we put on special needs people, and I desire to see them participate as equals in the kingdom of heaven. St. Francis of Assisi once said, “Preach the gospel always, and if necessary….use words.”
